Hugh Mahon was the very definition of a leader. Drum Major for the Paterson Cadets, Skyliners, Garfield Cadets and Hawthorne Caballeros, he went on to instruct the Paterson Lamplighters, Garfield, Toronto Optimists, Long Island Kingsmen, Skyliners, Bridgemen and Spirit of Atlanta. From the mid-1960s through the 1980s, he was a highly regarded visual adjudicator for the Central States, New England, and Eastern States Judging Associations.
In 1970, Hugh organized and founded the United Organization of Junior Corps (UOJC), following up in 1972 by co-founding Drum Corps International (DCI) along with Don Warren, Jim Jones, and Dave Kampschroer.
A true visionary who inspired his students and colleagues alike, Hugh Mahon handled it all with grace and class. His career should serve as an example for anyone in a position of responsibility, whether in or outside of Drum Corps.
